Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My role as a Software Engineer Intern, day-to-day, involved me joining daily and specific project/team-based meetings, contributing to Agile processes, partaking in Early Careers events and completing software development tickets.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was contributing to a real feature which will be deployed once finished, spent two weeks leading the Agile sprint and truly felt part of the team throughout the experience.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Massively developed existing soft skills such as confidence, communication, organisation, and especially leadership skills from my time as sprint-lead. Learnt new technical-based skills too from working on an exciting project with new technologies.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received plenty of support and guidance through the internship. Our line-manager, buddy and the other professionals in the team looked after us very well, left us to it but were always there if we needed help with anything technical or otherwise.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

A fantastic company culture with a very welcoming atmosphere. Instantly felt like part of the team, with regular office days, socials and Early Careers events with the other interns, placement students and grads.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

Thoroughly enjoyed the entire internship experience. A very welcoming and supportive team, a wide-range of socials and events, and interesting meaningful work. I've learnt lots and progressed professionally, technically and personally.
