Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Savills?
Mostly positive. Good range of work, knowledgeable coworkers to learn from.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Support to more senior members of the team on their projects. Has included writing reports, researching things, sitting in on meetings, and chasing other consultants over email/phone.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
Work is meaningful as it's often stuff that needs to get done, but just doesn't need a director to do it. You feel valued as you know that they appreciate you taking some of the grunt work from them!
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
2/5
Notably poor by current industry standards.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
I get experience on a good range of projects and get to see how the more senior people in the team work.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
4/5
There is a lot of passive learning as you get tasked with different jobs and work on different projects. There are other opportunities to learn new skills (e.g. GIS), but you have to actively search these out and they tend to be centrally-run rather than in each office.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
4/5
I've had a good experience with line managers and my APC mentor, but I understand from others that this can be hit and miss depending on who you're allocated and their opinion of you.
How is your work-life balance?
4/5
I'm not expected to stay beyond my contracted hours in my role as a graduate, although I've gathered that this can vary depending on what office you're in.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
Seems to vary a lot depending on what office you're in. I'm lucky that there are a lot of other grads/apprentices working in my office and we get along well. We're not allowed to work from home unless we have a reason why, such as an appointment or workmen coming etc. It would be nice in terms of work-life balance if there was a bit more flexibility on this.
How would you rate Savills initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
4/5
There are optional seminars and training sessions on these throughout the year. I haven't really noticed any initiatives beyond this.
How would you rate Savills CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
We're expected to do a couple of hours of volunteering a year, which is easy to achieve as people in my office organise volunteering opportunities in the local area, which is great. There are also opportunities to represent Savills at events we're sponsoring or school careers fairs, which are great fun and feel valuable.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
If you want to become a Chartered Planner, Savills has one of the best training schemes for this, so it's much easier to do it here than at a smaller firm or council.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
Mostly meets expectations.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Savills?
Make sure to appear confident and extroverted during the recruitment process. Don't apply for jobs where you'd have to move unless you've already got accommodation lined up!
