Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at National Grid?
I enjoyed my experience on National Grid graduate scheme. The graduate scheme consisted of three separate placements that gave me broad exposure to different areas of the business and allowed to to experience lot of different things. There were also many opportunities and events on the grad scheme which were designed to develop and enhance my career. For me these were great opportunities for to bond with the other graduates.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I did three separate placements where my roles varied significantly. Whilst working as an Economist in Regulation I was mainly focused on Ofgem's regression models. I traded energy imbalance whilst working as an Energy Trader. Finally, I performed a deep dive of the gas system and backcasted some Plexos models whilst working in Market Analytics.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend National Grid to a friend?
Yes
Why?
All in all the grad scheme was enjoyable. I made some good friends and I gained exposure to different areas of National Grid. There is a lot of scope to explore different parts of the energy system. I now have experience in Economic Regulation, Energy Trading and Energy Markets.
I also gained some skills in R, Plexos and Pyhton and had the opportunity to make significant contributions.
If your looking for a career in energy I would highly recommend.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
2/5
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to National Grid?
Research the company, the specific area of the energy industry, or what your team is doing. A bit of background knowledge would look impressive.
Don't be put off if you feel one part of the assessment centre didn't go well, it didn't all go perfectly for me.
