Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Savills?
So far my experience at Savills has been good. I have been given a lot of responsibility from the outset and met a lot of lovely people within my industry.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
My main responsibilities has been engineering and design work focussed mainly around retrofit of existing commercial building spaces. This includes, but is not limited to, mechanical & electrical detailed design work; building fitout, decarbonisation, central plant replacement, surveying, feasibility reporting, and specifications of work.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
My team is great, and they really listen to what I want from them. Not always can you get the project work you want, but in most instances, they have tried to compromise and give me a wide range of projects to help me with my professional development
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
2/5
I feel like the compensation package is below average for the technical skills required for the job. As an engineer, I am required to know how to use computer aided design software, computational fluid dynamics, advanced modelling & data visualisation in excel, and more. Typically this warrants a high pay package, but due to the central nature of my grad scheme, I only get what everyone else gets which makes me feel a bit undervalued. To my understanding, Savills also pay less than what is typical of my position in the same industry.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
4/5
Savills have been fantastic in preparing myself for my future career. I have had my membership for chartership expensed, I have a chartership mentor, and I am actively working towards to CEng registration.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
4/5
I have developed a lot in my first year, and have already build a strong network and laid the foundations for a well rounded theoretical knowledge base to add to for the next year.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
The support I have around me is excellent. I have a clear network to assist me everyday, comprised of a mentor, supervisor, line manager, and chartership mentor, all of which are more than happy to help me in anyway or at any time. I am truly grateful to have met some of the people I work with.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
My work life balance had been brilliant. Ultimately I am getting paid to get the job done, and not to do the hours I am contracted for. This flexibility lets me excel in my own individual working patterns, and I couldn't critique Savills in any way regarding this matter.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
3/5
Despite having built great friendships and working relationships within Savills, there is not much more effort put into the culture of our team. It seems to be quite fractured from the young professionals up to the senior staff, which is understandable, but a little more effort would definitely go a long way.
How would you rate Savills initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
4/5
Savills offer a lot of D&I, accessibility and equality initiatives that I have actively tried to participate in.
How would you rate Savills CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5
Again, CSR is clearly important within Savills. To date, I have worked with Savills charities and attended events to deepen my understanding of CSR.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Fairly straightforward - there are lots of fun people, a lot of support, and a great platform to begin your professional career.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
I would say the role matches the job description well, and I have really enjoyed working here.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Savills?
Try to show of personality! Ultimately this industry is about people so if you can't be personable, you will be selling yourself short.
