Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Savills?
I work in Savills Development Division within the regional surveying side. Generally it is very positive, people are welcoming and willing to help and I feel I am given responsibility to manage jobs from start to finish once I advanced my skillset through on the job training. However, there are areas which could be improved such as great flexibility over working hours and when to work from home. There has also been a lot of change within the team since joining which has been unsettling and not very positive, such as losing two APC supervisors, but this I'm sure is not helped by the market.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I do not complete rotations and instead work as a general practice surveyor completing valuation and agency jobs with some consultancy mixed in. I enjoy valuation the most as I am process driven and have had the most experience in this area. I also enjoy the consultancy work.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
We have regular meeting, strategy days etc. I wouldn't have put 4 when I first joined due to being junior but as I am coming up to 2 years at Savills I feel I can express my opinion more and provide valuable feedback from a graduate's perspective.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
3/5
Benefits are good but most cannot be accessed until qualified. The salary is also not in line with other companies which makes it very tough especially having relocated for the job and the rental market.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
4/5
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
3/5
The graduate team put on regular APC workshops which are useful but these do only provide a whistle stop tour through the subject. I have also encouraged my team to provide APC workshops internally to the team which are useful and without encouragement would not have happened.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
3/5
From my immediate manager, very good.
From the graduate HR team, quite poor. I have only had one catch up with the graduate HR team throughout the two years and although you are always able to reach out to them it would have been useful if they acknowledged the difficulties of losing your APC supervisor twice etc.
How is your work-life balance?
2/5
This is currently down to the APC process and I hope will improve once completed.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
3/5
From a corporate perspective, very good. From a team perspective, good but sometimes it does not feel aligned to the corporate view. Hybrid and remote working policies are not encouraged and often feels like there is an obligation to always be in the office.
How would you rate Savills initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
3/5
It is all there in theory but in practice there is still a long way to go. At the graduate level this is much better but in senior management positions this is much worse.
How would you rate Savills CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Good training and support as a graduate. It is also generally very social.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Savills?
Make sure you apply to locations you are happy with and don't feel you have to relocate.
