Summer Intern Aerospace Engineer Undergraduate Review

I work within a department that does testing on the aircraft developed at the site. I've spent a lot of time developing software used to analyse the data produced by the measurements I've taken.

I've been given a lot of free reign to approach the task given to me, that's not to say I've not been given a lot of very useful guidance and support throughout the process. The task I completed was something crucial to the long term goals of the department.

I've had a lot of chance to develop my coding and measurement taking skills in a practical and real world environment. Given the nature of the work, I've also needed to employ my research skills - often referring to scientific papers to assist in the development of the processes I've been investigating.

Any queries of questions I've had about anything have been addressed very quickly as the team is very supportive. I really felt well looked after and valued given the time commitment they put in to make the process an enjoyable one for me to progress in.

As expected with engineers the team is quite reserved but we always make an effort to go to lunch together and out for walks on the break. There have also been several offers to join in out of work activities.
The summer intern, industrial placement and grad schemes also have a socials scheme set up where people can get to know other new people to the company and make some good friends who have also moved to the area for work.

I've on the whole really enjoyed the internship, I've rarely been without work to do but have never felt bogged down in work either. I've appreciated the opportunities to learn on the job and have a meaningful position within an active department.
There have however been some quiet spells where the work isn't that exciting - this is something I expected as this is true in most jobs.
