Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Internship project was to create a proof-of-concept for an LLM-powered data extraction tool.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, was encouraged to take my project in whichever direction I saw fit. Occasionally was denied permission to certain tech stack tools at times, however.

Yes, I've learned a lot about practical data pipelines and workflows, managing data quality, LLM tools available commercially, prompt engineering in LLMs, networking to advance a career, financial markets and financial data.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
As much as was needed from my team & mentor, but sometimes found it hard to access relevant technical tools or know which software engineering teams to contact.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
This was one of my favourite features of the internship: I really enjoyed Bloomberg's open, collaborative culture and appreciated the firm's encouragement to take regular "coffee chats" with a wide variety of employees. I also really appreciated the incredible diversity of people working at Bloomberg.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a lot about data management, data engineering and financial markets, but was also able to strongly develop other skills outside of work content such as networking.

What advice would you give to others applying to Bloomberg
Actively seek out other employees to network with during the internship as it's an invaluable opportunity, and also be prepared to have to push/chase a bit for technical permissions - don't be afraid to.
