Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I was given a self-contained project adding new features onto my teams new web-app that is currently in development. Every day we would have a stand up call to discuss how our work is going, plan for the rest of the day and have a general catch up.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given full responsibility and control of my project; throughout the internship I was allowed to make decisions on what the features would look like and what I would work on.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I used Typescript and React for the first time, which I really enjoyed. I also used XML in developing a service schema, which was new to me. This then led to me developing the service code in Python, which was a huge development on my skills going in.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I had frequent 1-2-1 meetings with both my mentor and my manager, which helped me to adjust both within the workspace and even in my personal life. My team also gave me lots of feedback and advice in regards to my project, which helped massively.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture is very accommodating and friendly, it makes you feel like a part of a huge team. The company puts a lot of emphasis on philanthropy which I really appreciate; I had the opportunity to take part in some volunteering events that varied massively, from tree conservation to meal prepping for the homeless.
