Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Was given the responsibility of implementing a new microservice for the buy-side part of the company.
An average day involved a standup, meeting with my mentor, and then my days were mostly open to work on the project. I also participated in all team meetings, giving input as I was able and contributing to other areas not directly related to my project. This meant I was well integrated with the team as a whole.
The intern events put on by Bloomberg were also fantastic, and helped me network during my time there

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was able to take ownership of the project as a whole, with people around me to support me. For the first few tasks I had more support, but I was given more freedom as I became more familiar with the environment.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Daily meetings with my mentor, as well as regular meetings with my manager. Team members were always willing to help with more technical questions that I had.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Very welcoming and friendly, and understanding of the challenges that arise when you first join. Also encouraged me to not work too hard and explore as much as I could, even when that took time away from my primary project.
Everyone was eager to have lunch and have a chat, and collaboration really is a key part of the business culture.
