Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As a Sales and Analytics Intern we got an overview of the two role types: Analytics which is effectively a finance help desk for users of the terminal, and Sales which is the maintenance of client relations and selling of the terminal and other products Bloomberg offers. Our week was split between 2 Analytics days: Finance classes on different asset types, Calls to clients about certain functions, senior speaker series from senior members of the company and project work. The three sales days included 1 calling day where we would call clients from different regions about something specific, and two days within our sales regions/groups doing projects.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
We were given a fairly large level of responsibility from the get-go, you are well trained on how do do things and then expected to implement those. For example we called clients in our second week and genuinely making an impact on the progress of the company.

Each intern is assigned a mentor for both sales & analytics and then a leader in both of those too. So you have 4 direct points of contact and then also everyone else was super helpful and keen to assist.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture is a huge aspect and something which Bloomberg prides itself on. Everyone was super willing to help out, even strangers in different departments if you got lost or very senior people you message for a coffee chat are happy to meet.

What advice would you give to others applying to Bloomberg
This is not a finance role. If you are expecting something akin to a Bank then you will not get it here. What you will get is huge exposure to financial markets and players, responsibility and the ability to make an impact, and a chance to interact with a hugely diverse range of people.
