Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a regulatory compliance intern, I assisted my manager in any administrative tasks, sat in on meetings and managed my own personal projects (given by manager).

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given an adequate (the right kind) amount of responsibility. I was given enough responsibility to help improve efficiency within the team, but not enough to effectively hinder the company in any way.

We received as much as we wanted, therefore it was varied from intern to intern.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture was honestly the best I have ever seen. It's a corporate company without the corporate edge. Easy to talk to anyone; as you walk past people, they smile at you. Everyone is willing to help you in your career and development. It is such a welcoming atmosphere - it was easy to get comfortable/settle in.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

They give opportunities for you to step outside of your comfort zone, which can be an iffy feeling, but always worth it. I did enjoy my internship very much and would definitely recommend.

What advice would you give to others applying to National Grid

Advice:
Lean into your strengths during the application process.
Practice interview questions.
Research National Grid (including current political policies that could impact National Grid regulations)
During the assessment centre, you can be collaborative as well as provide your own input.
If you get in, try to visit as many departments as possible - to expand your knowledge of NGED.
