Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

The work was quite varied. Sometimes I was reading through documents to gain understanding, sometimes I was writing reports or producing spreadsheets, and sometimes I was communicating with different people over email.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Not initially, but as the internship went on I started to be given more responsibility.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I think I have become better at reviewing reports, spreadsheets and documents and being able to draw conclusions from them and spot errors. My organisation skills have also improved, especially my ability to prioritise tasks.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received a good amount of support and guidance. Most people in my team were quite busy most of the time, so a decent amount of the work I did was self-guided, but when I needed help with a particular issue everyone was very happy to give me advice.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company has a very friendly and welcoming culture. Everyone I met and worked with made a very big effort to make me feel more welcomed and at ease throughout the placement.

I really enjoyed my placement. I never felt like I was being given meaningless tasks, and I met a lot of very nice people during it.

What advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems

In your application, try to show your passion and enthusiasm for the field you are applying to, because chances are the people interviewing you and reviewing your application will share this passion! I would also recommend being open to different roles and tasks (e.g. if some of the work you are given is not necessarily what you are used to or have learned about) because you will be surprised how quickly you are able to get to grips with something new.
