Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

The day starts at 9AM and from there I would check my diary and see what project calls I would be attending that day. The workload is relatively ad-hoc depending on the quarter and what is on the agenda for that month. If there are large events I would give an update on my status of work to the respective team members and check the status of payments if there are any being raised. Then I would join calls, send notes, and take my follow up actions.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Without doubt! Although some of the project seemed daunting at first, the placement coordinators and your individual teams are always happy to support and offer advice. When supporting on large events and working with external stakeholders, there is usually a lot of projects running in parallel and so it can feel like a lot of responsibility. This makes your experience feel even more fulfilling as you know your contributions are valued and impactful to the business and your team.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Business appropriate communication- working within the MD department I have learnt how to effectively communicate with senior colleagues and to conduct myself in a professional manner. Additionally, communicating with AE’s and creating executive briefs have really levelled up my communication skills. Additionally I have learnt and developed my project management skills through the various project and events I’ve worked on over the past 13 months. This includes working with multiple teams and departments both internally and externally to ensure an event or exec visit is executed smoothly.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

The support from the placement team and your teams is invaluable. Also, with such a large cohort of interns, you really never feel alone and there is always someone to talk to if you need support. Within role, teams are very encouraging and engaged on your personal development. When undertaking stretch projects, you meet lots of other young professionals, often who have also been placement students. This creates a lovely atmosphere and an empathetic workforce.
