Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
You can be assigned a wide range of work, it really depends on your Business Unit and what your buddies (graduates) are doing. I primarily did a lot of individual calculations, where you calculate the cash equivalent transfer value (CETV) for members moving out of pension schemes. I also created PowerPoints, checked data from two dates for a wider project and shadowed several key meetings for a insurer buy in.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a lot of responsibility to do the individual calculations and check data, but there would always be several checkers and reviewers above me to double check my work and provide feedback/updates. I loved this approach, since it meant that I could improve in a risk free environment.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Learnt a lot of technical skills with Excel, outlook etc. Also a lot of pensions history, e.g. GMP and tranching. Added to my soft skills and data analysis skills.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Your provided with two buddies (graduates from last year) who are your first point of contact. There is also your intern manager. But most of the time, everyone in the Business Unit (BU) is very friendly and always willing to help you.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone is very friendly and approachable. Always willing to give you a hand with your work and provide advice about future career options. Office was sometimes a bit empty, due to WFH, but again everyone is available via teams and more than happy to chat. Socials are good fun.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I loved it more as it went along, since once you have completed your training your understanding of your work massively expands. There were some slightly longer weeks (over 35 hours), but this was very much a personal choice and there is zero expectation for you to work more than 35 hours. Would definitely come back if I had a graduate offer.

What advice would you give to others applying to WTW
Make sure to research key pensions topics (CDC and buy-in) pre assessment centre. Practice psychometric testing and hire Vue questions. Research core values and company history. Discuss about leadership and committee positions extensively in interviews during AC.
