Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As a Developer on the On Demand team at Centrica, my role involved contributing to the development and enhancement of customer-facing features on the British Gas website.
On a day-to-day basis, my work was a mix of development, collaboration, and learning. I participated in Refinement sessions, where I presented tickets and discussed implementation details with the team. I was apart of Daily stand up meetings and Was given time to carry out tasks.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a good amount of responsibility during my internship. I led the development of a new customer journey on the British Gas website, wrote my own tickets, collaborated across teams, and contributed to real features that went into testing. I was trusted to take ownership of my work and supported throughout, which helped me grow both technically and professionally.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a lot of support and guidance throughout my internship. My manager and mentor were always available for pair programming, feedback, and help with blockers. I also had opportunities to shadow other teams and engineers, which gave me a broader understanding of the business. The environment was collaborative and encouraging, which made it easy to ask questions and grow

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture at Centrica was incredibly welcoming, inclusive, and supportive. From the start, there was a clear effort to make interns feel part of the team through structured onboarding, one-to-one meetings, and social activities. The atmosphere was calm and collaborative, which made it easy to ask questions, learn, and grow both professionally and personally.

I enjoyed my internship. The work was engaging, the team was incredibly supportive, and I had the chance to contribute to meaningful projects. I also appreciated the calm and inclusive environment, which made it easy to learn, grow, and connect with others. Overall, it was a very positive and rewarding experience.
