Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Worked in Centrica Power with two other engineering interns for the duration of the internship. We worked on a project based on one of Centrica's gas peakers, trying to make them cheaper to run. We worked mostly independently with daily calls with a grad and weekly calls with our line manager.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, the project was mostly self-run and felt like it could have a real impact on the business, The project was open-ended so we made decisions on its direction and were allowed to explore whatever we believed was best.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I felt very supported throughout the internship with daily contact with an assigned grad. I also had a grad "buddy" who I spoke to on a weekly basis, and a team weekly call with our line manager. I also felt like I could ask for help from anyone in the wider team, including senior managers.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

We were all placed in Royal Holloway for the duration of the internship so I got lots of opportunities to socialise with the other interns. Within my team everyone was very friendly and would always chat to us.
