Process Engineering Intern Review

I was working with the engineering team on a 7 week project to assess the feasibility of installing a new nitrogen gas blanket at one of their sites. This involved technical calculations day to day and filling in a final report, similar to a university assignment.

It was a real project that they wanted to do so felt like a lot of responsibility. It also contributed to the net zero goal which is very important to the company.

I used a lot of my university learning. I developed my problem solving, presenting and teamwork skills throughout. There was plenty of opportunities to learn new skills too, such as Excel training.

I had day to day meetings with our graduate manager who offered lots of useful support, as well as weekly catch ups with our line manager to present what we'd done and ask for help if needed. Overall, we were given the guidance when needed, without being told exactly what to do which I think helped us in the long run.

Everyone is very positive and open to supporting you. I didn't come across anyone that was particularly unfriendly. The culture towards the company values was a bit over the top at times, but they're a good target to aim for. We were encouraged to partake in local volunteering opportunities too which was nice.

I really enjoyed my placement. I was given a steady stream of important work to keep me occupied and the end goal was very rewarding. I've gained invaluable engineering experience and made some lifelong friends. It has been a thoroughly enjoyable 9 weeks.
