Spring Vacation Scheme Intern Review

On the scheme, interns attended webinars and panels to ask questions and learn more about the firm and its culture. Interns were also given typical trainee solicitor tasks in different practice areas. These tasks were completed under the guidance of trainee solicitors and associates at the firm. There was also a group task on the final day, which mimicked what it is like to work in small teams as a solicitor at Dentons.

It was really insightful understanding all about the business and potential roles available. It gave me an opportunity to understand whether the firm was an appropriate fit for me and vice versa. The vacation scheme also showed me just how varied the work the firm does and how, as a trainee, you are exposed to different areas of the business in your training contract seat rotations.

I learnt new skills such as applying commercial awareness to situations, writing concisely and carrying out thorough legal research. I also learnt how to communicate well with colleagues and how to adapt my work depending on supervisor and client.

I found Dentons to be a very open and welcoming culture. Everybody that I met was really friendly and always willing to help. This was really great as an intern as it meant that I felt comfortable to ask questions and clarify my understanding of complex things. I also found that the firm was non-hierarchical, and truly diverse and inclusive. Partners at the firm have also been supportive along all steps of the recruitment process.

Coming from a non-law background, I found the insight extremely useful in shaping my career goals. Dentons made the experience really enjoyable and ensured that whatever background people have come from, they are included. The tasks were really interesting and were challenging in appropriate ways. This made the work that I did also very enjoyable. I had really thought provoking conversations with employees at the firm and other interns, making it overall an excellent experience.
