Summer Scheme Student Review

My role was involved with car dealerships, petrol filling stations, charge point operators. I was involved in rent reviews, lease renewals, valuations, acquisitions, market reports, financial modelling, property viewings/inspections. On a day-to-day basis, I would have background tasks such as excel databases that I would work on and would help out the team on projects they were working on. This varied from valuation reports to finding comparables to creating property databases.

I was given high levels of autonomy to explore the business and understand what areas I like the most. In addition, I was provided autonomy when working through tasks for the ability to solve the problem myself. I was allowed to determine what my weekly calender would look like and how many tasks I would feel to undertake each day.

The most prominent skill I have developed is my communication, as Savills gave large freedom to talk to new people internally. This improved my ability to meet and build personal relationships. In addition, I have improved my skills with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word due to the report writing and databases. I have also improved my attention to detail through reading leases, market reports and scanning information to present through Microsoft Office.

The HR team was very supportive and guiding in assisting our pathway through the business. They encouraged us to be enthusiastic and speak to many people within the business to explore our interests. Alongside this, my team was supportive whenever I got stuck or did not understand a task.

The company culture was very inviting and friendly. Every person I met was willing to have a quick chat and talk about their department. Even if they were busy they would stil spare time to talk and get to know you.

I thoroughouly enjoyed my internship period due to the level of support and the culture present at the workplace. In addition, the level of knowledge gained during the 6 week term was extremely beneficial.
