Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As an intern in the property management team, day-to-day tasks are generally around admin. There is a heavy focus on leases - investigating tenant rights on ownership and repair obligations and writing up new tenant lease forms with their corresponding workflow (an IT system Savills use). Other responsibilities include filling in quarterly reports (QPMRs), and ensuring both rent and service charge is paid - chasing tenants with outstanding balances/arrears.
Site visits and inspections also are a key responsibility, ensuring the property has no defects and the tenants are satisfied.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, over time I gained confidence of my team to resolve disputes and communicate with others over email. Perhaps in this role, you are not given as much independent responsibility as you may in a division such as office agency in which you may be required to take clients on vieiwings etc.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
One of the greatest skills I have developed whilst on the summer scheme is confidence in reading and understanding lease agreements - a practical skill when renting a student house at univeristy and likely a home in the future. Being my first real exposure to working in a busy London office, the experience has offered an opportunity to develop my level of professionalism in a corporate setting. This coupled with working in a people-orientated industry has improved my ability to communicate effectively in a team and with clients.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
On a wider scale, the general atmosphere amongst Savills employees is that they are proud to work for the company and enjoy what they do. On a smaller scale (i.e. within your team) the company culture can vary significantly - depending on both the team division and the demographic. For example, some teams with a younger demographic typically socialise more, or some teams host events whilst others don't.
