Summer Vacation Scheme Review

Summer VS students participated in a number of lectures on diverse practice areas such as global financial markets, disputes, ENRI, sports law, M&A, banking, and so on. The lectures also included case studies which were interactive. We were assigned a team and a trainer who gave us different tasks to work on. We also made a presentation for Legal Process Innovation Challenge.

I really appreciated the extent to which the law firm's partners and associates explained the workings of the business. This including giving an overview of trainee and associate roles and explaining the partner-track. We were also taught about how the firm manages client relationships and tries to anticipate and meet their needs.

I learnt the skill time-management. Our schedules were quite packed with lectures, tasks assigned by trainer, and coffee chats. Within this schedule, we had to make time for the LPI challenge presentation. Further, I learnt to navigate a diverse workplace and how we could work as a team.

The atmosphere was extremely welcoming. People understood that we are in a new work environment and went out of their way to make us feel included and welcome. In particular, I enjoyed the South Asia Heritage Month when people of both South Asian and non-South Asian heritage participated. The Associates were also very generous with their time in explaining doubts and speaking about their practice area in general.

I thoroughly enjoyed the insight. For the first time in my experience, a law firm took an active interest in potential trainees. They have invested both time and resources in us. They also made active efforts to connect us with people who we could reach out to for more clarifications and receive more insights. The firm was clearly transparent in their workings and encouraged us to be more inquisitive of the firm.
