Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I participate in regular team meetings and stand-ups to discuss progress, raise issues, and align on testing priorities. My role also involves maintaining clear and structured documentation, reviewing technical requirements, and contributing to discussions around test planning and delivery. I work with both manual and automated testing approaches, using a variety of tools and platforms to validate functionality, user experience, and system performance.
In addition to hands-on testing tasks, I continue to build my technical knowledge through structured training, certifications, and mentoring. I also collaborate with colleagues across different teams, which has helped develop my communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in a professional environment. Overall, my role as a Test Analyst has provided a well-rounded experience in software quality assurance and real-world consultancy practices.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
While I wasn’t given significant responsibility straight away, my placement provided a supportive environment where I was gradually trusted with more tasks as my confidence and skills developed. Early on, my focus was on learning, shadowing team members, and contributing to smaller parts of the testing process.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes, during my placement as a Test Analyst, I have both developed new skills and enhanced existing ones across technical, professional, and interpersonal areas.
Technically, I’ve gained hands-on experience with automation testing tools, including scripting and executing tests, and have developed a solid understanding of software testing principles through structured learning and practical application. I also built confidence using version control systems, explored behaviour-driven development (BDD) practices, and improved my ability to work within agile methodologies.
Professionally, I’ve enhanced my skills in communication, organisation, and problem-solving, especially when working collaboratively on testing tasks, reporting issues, or participating in team discussions. Over time, I’ve become more confident in contributing ideas, asking questions, and adapting to new tools and workflows.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to CGI
My advice to others applying to CGI would be to embrace every opportunity to learn and get involved, especially early on. CGI values enthusiasm, initiative, and a willingness to grow — you don’t need to know everything from day one, but showing that you're eager to develop makes a big difference. Make the most of the training resources and support networks, like the Early Careers programme and mentoring schemes, as they provide a strong foundation for both technical and professional growth.
