Vacation Scheme Student Review

I attended timetabled sessions delivered by various practice areas, gaining a broader insight into the firm, including the Firmwide Managing Partner. Most notable was a client pitch exercise, in which we worked in teams to deliver a pitch to a hypothetical client. Furthermore, I worked on live tasks within a practice area. There were also various socials, from speedboating to an art class. Not to mention, I had the opportunity to interview for a Training Contract.

It was insightful and motivating. Through timetabled sessions, I gained a clear picture of how the firm operates commercially and the vital role lawyers play in supporting clients’ businesses. The experience highlighted the variety of legal work available and the diverse career paths within the firm.
Furthermore, we were encouraged to organise coffee chats, even with senior members of the firm. This was inspiring, allowing vacation schemers to visualise where they could end up!

I developed time management skills by balancing multiple assignments, timetabled sessions and coffee chats. I enhanced my ability to prioritise tasks, communicate clearly with supervisors and work efficiently under pressure. I gained practical legal research experience, improved my commercial awareness, and learned how to adapt quickly to new challenges. Collaboration with colleagues, particularly during the client pitch exercise, strengthened my teamwork and professional communication skills.

Lawyers were approachable and willing to offer guidance. There was a genuine commitment to professional development, both through formal training and informal mentoring. The atmosphere balanced excellence with friendliness, making it easy for students and newcomers to grow. I never felt unsupported, and it was a challenging and fulfilling experience!

I cannot speak highly enough about my experience. I felt welcomed, supported, stimulated and challenged.
The timetabled sessions provided a breadth of exposure that was complemented by in-depth experience at our seats. It was a fulfilling simulation of life as a trainee.
