Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The vacation scheme provided an insight into the daily routine of a lawyer at Linklaters; we shadowed our principal (Associates/MAs) through their client calls, meetings etc, and got to undertake some of our own work as well as assessed projects. There were plenty of opportunities to network with firm employees, and develop other legal skills e.g. client pitching, research, commercial awareness.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It helped me massively envisioning my future career; seeing the variety of practice areas available and getting to interact with lawyers at every level of seniority was incredibly insightful.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have developed my commercial awareness significantly over the course of the three weeks - existing within a business shows you the real-world applications of legal and commercial concepts you have encountered, and teaches you how to deliver the best work possible for clients. I have also developed my networking, presentation, and research skills.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture felt very collaborative - within my practice area, people were popping in and out to ask each other questions and bounce off each other all the time. This also fosters a very supportive atmosphere where asking questions is completely accepted.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really enjoyed the opportunities for learning and development that this scheme presented; the skills I have honed will definitely be useful to me in my career and I have loved meeting everyone within the firm and making friends amongst my cohort.
