Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Placed within the Planning team, day-to-day involved producing reports such as policy notes, site appraisals and conducting a portfolio review for development potential, all of which typically included familiarising myself with Local Plans and policy as well as using various maps and software such as MAGIC Maps and EA Flood Risk. Also attended meetings with local council representatives at different stages of the planning application process. In addition, Departmental Overviews were organised regularly for interns to learn about the wider business and the different services/teams Savills offers.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, for example, I was given a large task which was a portfolio review of 68 properties across the country. The task had a set deadline and would go on to be sent to the client.

I received a lot, the team was eager to keep me busy and more than happy to answer any questions I had, as well as seeking to make sure I maximised my learning.
