Summer Scheme Student Review

As a Summer Scheme Student, I gained hands-on experience across the department, contributing to projects and team activities. I attended departmental overviews and team meetings, supported data gathering and analysis, conducted market research, and created reports using Excel and PowerPoint. This role helped me develop technical and soft skills, including communication, problem-solving, and time management, while gaining valuable insight into real-world business operations and how different teams collaborate.

Yes, I was given a significant level of responsibility from the very beginning. In my first week, I was already involved in the team’s day-to-day activities. Once I understood the procedures and workflows, I was entrusted with full responsibility for project work (under supervision) allowing me to contribute directly to team operations and client consultancy. This hands-on involvement gave me valuable insight into real-world professional practice.

During my summer scheme, I developed key skills including report writing, data gathering and analysis, and comparable evidence weighting. I improved my ability to calculate estimated rental and capital market values, and enhanced my proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. I also strengthened my communication skills, becoming more confident in presenting and public speaking, which has helped me engage more effectively in team discussions and professional settings.

I received strong support and guidance throughout my placement. From the start, the team was keen to help me understand processes and improve in my role. They encouraged my development by allowing me to take on extra tasks and explore more complex problems. I was always included in team activities, and colleagues were happy to explain their work and share insights, creating a very inclusive and supportive environment.

The work culture at Savills is excellent, professional yet relaxed. While there’s a strong emphasis on high standards and ethics, the environment is also very social and supportive. It doesn’t feel overly corporate or tense, which makes it enjoyable and motivating. I felt surrounded by driven, positive individuals who were genuinely collaborative and focused on success, creating a workplace that felt both productive and welcoming.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and found it incredibly rewarding. The six-week duration allowed me to explore different departments in depth and gain a broader understanding of the industry. I appreciated the balance of learning and responsibility, and the supportive team environment made the experience even more enjoyable. I would love to return in a full-time role after graduation. The only downside was that the experience had to come to an end!
