Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As a Sustainability Consultant we procure sustainable certifications, create carbon net zero pathways/ strategies and carry out climate risk assessments for assets that are in use. This involves completing frequent audits for our clients and making sure their assets comply with sustainable regulations set out by internationally recognized organisations such as GRESB and BREEAM.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a decent amount of responsibility to independently work on projects that would aid in the efficiency of the team while also working on tasks that aided our clients. However, I believe I could have been provided with a few more client faced tasks that would have better aided me in commanding an understanding on the impact our work has.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes, I have increasingly enhanced my skills in the use of excel and utilising it to analyse and display data in an understandable format. I have also improved my presentation skills, learning to display information on PowerPoint in an engaging manner, presenting and publicly speaking in front of my team within meetings.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Within the internship I was provided with plenty of support from my mentor as well as the surrounding team and graduates from within other teams. Everyone was very helpful with any questions that I had and gave us insights into their work and their day to day tasks, enabling me to grasp a better understanding of how my department sits and works within the wider company.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
I really like the company culture, it's very inclusive and accommodating. I would say the atmosphere of the workplace is also very cheerful and I particularly like the open plan of the office, as it makes it easy to talk and meet with people from various teams which enables you to spark very insightful and interesting conversations.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I have thoroughly enjoyed my internship. It has been an insightful six weeks into corporate life and what it demands. Gaining an insight into my potential career path has been eye opening and has enabled me to consider the aspects of the role that I may enjoy and others that I may not, enabling me to get a better understanding of my interests for future applications.

What advice would you give to others applying to Savills
When applying to Savills I would tell others to have a deep look at their website and explore the various departments and services that Savills provide. Prior to joining Savills I wasn't aware of how diverse the business is. So, I would recommend that people do thorough research into the department that best aligns with them.
