Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I am an intern as part of a wider team. Typically, I am given an overview on how to complete a task and will then complete it. These are usually tasks that would be expected of an entry-level role, such as preparing cover letters, PHAS, etc for planning applications. I have also been involved in larger projects and had the opportunity to go on site visits, attend a planning conference, and attend a planning committee.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes. While the work I completed was checked over by a more senior member of staff before submitting documents, I was still given many tasks which would go on to be used officially. This helped make the work feel meaningful and important.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt many new skills during my time in this role. I have gained a lot of knowledge on how different aspects of the planning system functions, and have been able to put this into practice. Specifically, my ability to clearly and efficiently convey information for others to read has greatly improved.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I have been given plenty of support and guidance throughout. The entire team have been eager to give me tasks and teach me how to complete them.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The atmosphere has been very welcoming, from the very first day I was invited to socialise after work hours. The office even had a summer social at a tennis club, which was very fun. The company have also been involved in lots of events. The company culture is inclusive and active.
