Sandwich Placement Student Review

I currently work in the Development Valuation team. This role involves inspecting properties, gathering information such as planning details, market trends/ values which ultimately contribute to providing a professional opinion to clients.

I have been entrusted to mentor University Students on multiple work experience programmes, ranging from a one week 'insight scheme', to a six week summer internship.

I have increased my understanding of valuation practices by being exposed to a variety of instruction purposes and property types. The scale of instructions has varied from small portfolio valuations, to large BTR schemes.
Having inspected multiple properties, I have improved my measurement skills.
To gain the most useful data and insights, you must undertake phone calls in Valuation. This has improved my communication skills drastically.

I was allocated a 'mentor' in my office, who was there to support me if needed. We had catch up meetings whenever needed.
For the RICS pathway there were multiple CPD sessions, which provide lots of professional guidance.

Savills had many events throughout my placement year which helped to 'break the ice' with colleagues. General day-to-day work is good too, 'hot-desking' allows us to socialise with other colleagues who are perhaps not in the same team.
