Summer Scheme Internship Review

I was there to support the other planners in my team with projects, given tasks ranging from writing cover letters for certain applications, running through full applications to make a start on site appraisals or planning statements, or being a part of team/client meetings to understand the process further.

Yes, any task I was given I was usually left to work on it by myself to see how much I could complete without help (then was able to ask for help at any point to guide me). I was given responsibility to ask for more workload or help which helped increase my confidence in my position and made me feel like a valued member of the team.

I have definitely learnt a lot of applicable skills while also developing and placing my existing skills into real world applications. I understand the process of a planning application in much more detail and have been able to learn skills relevant to most parts of the process (eg. discharging conditions, writing cover letters, updating consultation trackers, using local council website to find relevant information quickly).

The graduate recruitment team supplied the interns with multiple opportunities for support including networking events, catch ups with the directors in the team and meetings about the other departments in the company, which was very useful. My team was also super supportive and would always explain any process or task with good levels of detail and background so I understood the context of the tasks I was completing.

The company culture at Savills is highly commendable. Everyone was so friendly, chatty, and welcoming it made my first week settling in really easy. The general atmosphere is great being in such a large office so always feels sociable and the amount of social events the company put on for the teams makes the job much more interesting than a regular desk job!

I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Savills and am definitely encouraged to apply for future positions within this company. I have no complaints and would highly recommend the position, not only for the real world experience but for the high community morale and social aspect.
