Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My role has involved working within the valuations team in the Southampton Office, This has included assisting on a range of projects from residential, commercial and development with a mix of private and public clients. My role has often involved undertaking background research on properties, leasehold agreements and then compiling relevant comparable evidence to find a guide for appropriate rates. I then typically help to compose reports on the valuations

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I felt I was given plenty of responsibility and allowed to undertake my own valuations and compose my own reports with some guidance.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I've learnt to use argus developer software, which is commonly used by valuers as well as learning how to find suitable comparable evidence, undertake background research and how to compose reports on valuations for clients. I have also expanded my networking skills through events hosted by Savills.

Savills hosted lots of departmental talks throughout the internship to give an overview on the different teams and unique challenges they face/overcome. Additionally, within my team I recieved lots of guidance to help me learn about the role of the team.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The atmosphere was very positive and supportive. There is a big emphasis on the importance of people in both clients and colleagues which I liked.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I thoroughly enjoyed my internship, and felt it was an extremely valuable use of my time and enabled me to witness and embed myself in a respected and professional environment.
