Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Daily tasks involve monitoring current planning applications and creating consultation trackers for responses to planning applications. My work also involves creating site appraisals to assess the suitability of sites for development.
I have also worked on planning statements, project directories, and grey belt site searches.

I was given some responsibility when assessing the suitability of sites for development to make my own judgement on what I thought was appropriate.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have learnt problem solving skills as well as many work related skills such as the correct way to layout and complete a site appraisal, and how to monitor planning applications.
I have also learnt better ways to summarise large documents to send out to the team for ease.

I received lots of support and guidance, when I needed help, anyone was happy to help me.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
I found the culture quite corporate, including multiple people on the same teams call in the same room, rather than just going to a meeting room together. People were friendly but I think at times it could be awkward.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I did partly enjoy my placement, however, I don't think planning is the industry for me as there isn't enough variation and it is not a particularly active job that I would like.

What advice would you give to others applying to Savills
I would advise people to try and get some relevant experience prior, even if it is unpaid. And if you are selected for the assessment centre, it is not necessary to be the loudest in the room, but to make sure your comments are meaningful.
