Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My role includes collaborating with aerodynamicists and wind tunnel personnel to create parts for the wind tunnel F1 model. My day to day involved turning surfaces into 3D physical parts for testing in the wind tunnel at a later date

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes very much so, I have been responsible for large scale wind tunnel projects for the current car and next years car, completely independently. These have been conducted pretty much solo which was a really good experience to have

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes, I have used a new CAD package and spent a significant amount of time learning more effective CAD. I spent time in the wind tunnel learning how it works and how the parts get to the model. I learned planning and collaboration and negotiation when dealing with strict regulatory requirements as well

Lots. Model design is a very unique and specialised role and I had 3 different mentors throughout the year to help me adapt and settle in

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Very positive, and encouraging of a healthy life balance. Wider company was very orientated in the same direction, to win, and upper management kept the company very well informed regarding key business decisions
