Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I speak to prospective tenants interested in units that we are instructed on seeking further information ensuring the tenant will meet client expectations . I organise and conduct viewings with interested parties, whilst feeding back their comments to clients. Additionally, I draft marketing details for any new instructions for them to be finalised. I also draft heads of terms to be sent to the tenant and client for agreement. Alongside this, I connect with other agents to gather market intelligence and stay up to date with market trends, allowing me to provide informed advice and contribute to my teams success.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given multiple opportunities to take on responsibility during my placement role, this included updating leasing schedules before letting meetings and emailing these across to the client and other teams involved. Alongside this, I took ownership of various units, handling all the enquiries and managing canvassing exercises. Additionally, I was also responsible for arranging and conducting viewings, ensuring all parties were well-informed and that I had a thorough understanding of key information such as quoting rent, rateable value, unit size, and details about the surrounding area.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
My networking skills have improved significantly through the exposure to other placement students, graduates, agents and teams. This has also developed my strong communication skills further through discussions with prospective tenants and clients. Engaging with a wide range of professionals has helped me build confidence, adapt my communication style to different audiences, and form valuable working relationships. These experiences have not only strengthened my professional network but also enhanced my ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Throughout my placement, I received the highest level of support and guidance from both my immediate team, my office and the graduate/ placement team. I was encouraged to ask questions and ask for advice whenever I had a query. This was great as I had many questions! Weekly team meetings allowed me to stay informed with all works in progress the team had along with check ins with my own tasks, keeping me up to date and also providing room for improvements. This support and guidance played a key role not only in my personal development but made the learning experience proactive and enjoyable.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my placement and will genuinely be sad to leave. This experience has been incredibly rewarding. Throughout my time here, I’ve developed a wide range of skills, from technical and industry-specific knowledge to communication and teamwork that I know will be invaluable as I return to university to complete my degree. Being part of such a supportive and knowledgeable team has helped build my confidence and allowed me to take on real responsibilities. The placement has also given me a clearer picture the real estate sector. I’ve had the opportunity to meet with clients, collaborate with other students and graduates, and work on a variety of tasks all of which have strengthened my understanding of the industry.
