Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Modification of existing and installation of new mechanical systems. Measuring parameters to correctly spec equipment and organisation of third party contractors. Understanding how modifications will affect the wider business including the planning of production downtime to enable specific changes.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given responsibility to manage my own projects (self delivering) and have been given meetings to coordinate.

I've learnt new skills on various software e.g. SAP, Veeva and BMS/EMS systems. I've developed existing skills of working in a team and staying organised to meet deadlines.

My manager was very involved, especially in my early development. All members of senior staff that I interacted with helped support my learning and seemed genuinely interested with my development.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Welcoming and personable, no one seemed too far removed to have a conversation with, despite some members being part of the senior leadership team. Even when something would go wrong on site the atmosphere was overwhelmingly positive.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and the opportunities i was given by GSK. It made a nice change of pace to university and gave me a good idea of what working in industry could be like, confirming that I want to continue my career in mechanical engineering.
