Technology Intern Review

I support the team by collecting, analysing, and visualising data to help drive business decisions and give further insights for the program. On a day-to-day basis, I work with tools like Excel, Power BI, and SQL to generate reports, identify trends, and ensure data accuracy. I also liaise with stakeholders to understand their data needs and assist in developing insights.

Even though I was an intern, I felt I was entrusted with responsibilities on par with full-time employees, which showed the team had confidence in my abilities. This level of trust allowed me to take ownership of my work, contribute meaningfully to projects, and further develop my technical and professional skills. Being given real responsibilities pushed me to continuously learn and grow, making the experience both challenging and rewarding.

I’ve significantly developed my skills in the Office 365 suite, particularly in Excel and Power BI, enhancing my ability to analyse and present data effectively. I’ve also improved my ability to create and refine data queries, which has helped streamline reporting processes. Additionally, I’ve strengthened my soft and interpersonal skills by collaborating closely with team members and communicating with stakeholders.

I received a great deal of support throughout my internship. The scheme at VMO2 is specifically designed to provide multiple support systems, ensuring interns feel valued and well-guided. From day one, my team was incredibly helpful and approachable, and having an external mentor offered an additional layer of guidance. This structure made sure I felt settled, happy, and adequately challenged, allowing me to make the most of my placement and grow both personally and professionally.

The company culture is very inclusive and welcoming. There are numerous social and interest groups within the business catering to a wide range of activities and communities. This creates a friendly atmosphere where everyone feels encouraged to get involved, fostering a strong sense of belonging and collaboration across teams.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement as it provided me with valuable hands-on experience and the chance to apply my skills in a real-world setting.
