Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As an intern i was placed into both the On the Road Management team and the Cost team, so my objective was to reduce costs for Amazon by reducing a specific cost metric called nursery overuse, which was obviously an On the Road issue. However, your ultimate goal as an Amazon intern is to deliver a project explaining what you have done up to date as well as offering an innovative solution for that problem
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Being completely honest about it, and even though Amazon is one of the biggest companies in the world, specialized in a really fast-paced environment, I'll admit that as an intern you do not have that much of a responsibility. They dedicate most of your time to let you learn and understand every single dimension of the business at your own rhythm, and in return, all they ask is willingness to help, improve and thrive

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I'd say that Amazon is certainly a truly unique company, mainly due to its huge size, so not everything you've worked on will help you in another company in the future. Nevertheless, taking into account that this was my first ever serious work experience, and even in another country, I'd say that it has helped me understand how to work in a business-world professional environment as well as developing important team dynamics

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
It is fair to admit that I'm not the type of person that spends most of the time asking people things he does not know about but he wants to learn, so it's not played a huge role during my internship. However, and considering that people in here have got their own heavy workload and responsibilities, every single time I had a doubt or concern they were there to help me if possible

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Being based at a delivery station at Amazon instead of a fulfillment center means that you are placed at a way smaller site with less people on the team. In my case, many people were up to really different things so it's not like we were working hand-to-hand each time, but I'll confess that my co-workers have been both professional when they had to but relaxed or funny when it was about time

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
As I said, it was my first ever real world work experience, apart from doing it in another country I had just been living in for a couple of months. As everything in life, it has had its good and bad things, although I'd say that overall I've enjoyed it and I'd recommend to anyone out there who might be thinking about doing an internship at Amazon. You'll not regret it

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Amazon to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Amazon
I'm not sure if it's something that could only be related to Amazon itself, but I'd tell them not to fear rejection or not to have any shame about applying for a job, even if it's in Amazon or not. I was literally one of the last people in my class to secure my internship, and up to the point I got the Amazon job, I'd probably faced 100 "No"
