Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a solicitor apprentice seconded to NESO, I support legal research, drafting documents and legal advice. My experience so far is in regulatory law, particularly Electricity Market Reform and investigating the entire energy market of Great Britain.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy how challenging the programme is, and the level of support and training I have received to become a day one solicitor. This programme has strengthened my skills and confidence, ensuring I am well-equipped for my future legal career.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have refined my legal research skills, learnt how to manage client relationships effectively, and gained experience in drafting legal advice. I have also developed negotiation skills, helping me navigate complex regulatory issues with confidence.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is well-organised, with regular catch-ups to track progress and an open-door policy that fosters support and collaboration. There are plenty of conferences to attend, helping me develop new skills and explore different areas of law, ensuring a well-rounded and structured learning experience.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer, including two coaches—one from Flex Legal and another from Damar. Regular one-to-one meetings ensure continuous guidance, and the open-door policy creates an encouraging environment where I can seek advice and develop my skills.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive strong support from both Flex Legal and Damar with regular mentoring sessions and structured learning resources. They ensure I stay on track with my SQE, and provide access to workshops and materials that help me deepen my understanding of legal concepts while balancing work and study effectively.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification through my training provider helps me perform better in my role by covering core legal principles that I can apply directly to my work. The training also includes soft skills like communication, which I have successfully used when interacting with both legal colleagues and clients, strengthening my overall effectiveness as a solicitor apprentice.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
My seconded company has various employee groups, providing opportunities to connect and engage with colleagues. Additionally, Flex Legal hosts sporting events and numerous networking gatherings, allowing me to build relationships and develop professionally outside of my day-to-day role.
