Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I support architects in designing buildings, producing drawings, and preparing planning applications. Daily tasks include CAD drafting, model making, researching materials or regulations, and attending meetings or site visits. They help develop design concepts, coordinate with consultants, and ensure projects progress through different RIBA stages efficiently and creatively.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my architectural apprenticeship at LSBU as it combines academic learning with practical experience. The course content is engaging and relevant, and the support from tutors is excellent. I value the opportunity to apply university knowledge directly in practice, which helps me grow both professionally and creatively every day.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've developed my AutoCAD and 3D modelling skills through regular use on live projects, improving speed and accuracy. I’ve also gained confidence in client communication, attending meetings and writing professional emails. Additionally, I’ve enhanced my knowledge of UK planning policy and building regulations through hands-on project work and team collaboration.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The LSBU architecture apprenticeship is well structured, balancing academic study with professional work. Modules align with real-world practice, reinforcing learning. While some timetables can feel intense alongside work commitments, overall support is strong, and the program effectively bridges theory and practice, helping apprentices progress confidently towards qualification.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer provides strong support throughout my apprenticeship, offering guidance on projects, regular mentoring, and time to focus on university work when needed. They involve me in all RIBA stages, helping build my confidence and skills. This supportive environment makes balancing work and study much more manageable and rewarding.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
LSBU provides solid support as I work towards my qualifications. Tutors are approachable and knowledgeable, offering constructive feedback and guidance. Regular reviews help track progress, and access to resources like the library and digital tools is useful. Though busy at times, the overall academic support keeps me on track.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My university course at LSBU has greatly benefited my career by deepening my understanding of architectural theory, design principles, and construction methods. It’s improved my critical thinking and presentation skills, which I apply in practice. The balance of study and work has accelerated my development as a future architect.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Not really, but we occasionaly go out for staff meals to celebrate work milestones.
