Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I assist with creating construction drawings for developers. This includes plans, elevations, sections, schedules, sub-contractor checking, liaising with clients and the average day to day expectancies.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
It's been ok so far (2nd year almost over), but so I haven't learnt anything crucial that I see being replicated in average architect office spaces. I assume the next two years will relate to building regulations and how to interpret it into design.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have enhanced my construction knowledge overall, the main skill increase is being able to hunt for my own answers and where to find the correct information. The company I work for is more tailored to a Technologist but it's been very helpful to produce and understand all forms of detail, this way I won't be flippant in future planning designs for when i'm an Architect.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The first year had a bit more organisation apart from being blamed for 'tresspassing' on a site we were told to visit.
The second year has been ok but one of our modules felt a lack of organisation, with a brief being issued 6 weeks into the course, this was very strange.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Plenty if/when I need to ask something.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Plenty if/when I need to ask something.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I learnt more about 3D printers which is interesting if we do any model work. So far I haven't been able to use my degree for my work life.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend FBB Architects to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's rare you find a practise where the bosses want to know the whole story of a situation so they can assist in remediating said situation, there is a good sense of security.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to FBB Architects?
Don't lie on your CV, be more specific in what you can confidently do (saying 3+years Revit or AutoCAD means nothing if you aren't able to create original drawings), and a lot of work is standard house types so being organised is crucial.
