Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a beauty apprentice. At Holmes of beauty I have the opportunity to run a column of clients for all different beauty treatments at a discounted rate to practice and gain confidence in all different skills. I take part in further training with managers to extend my knowledge and learn things my college course may not include, including going to trips to have training by the manufacturers of the products we use so I know exactly what I’m talking about. If I ever feel like I need more help, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is always happy to book in more time to work on this. I also have taken part in customer service work shops which have helped me so much to become more confident speaking to people in person and on the phone and gaining knowledge of how to provide the best customer service. I also help upkeep the cleanliness of the salon.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy it so much all of the girls who work there are happy to help me and inspire me to deliver the treatments at the best standard I can. I feel like I receive lots of training in order to feel confident once I’m qualified.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes I have learnt many different skills including facials, hydra facials, dermaplaning, nail extensions, massage, waxing and also attended training at a skin care brand that we use to learn their products.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very organised, at the college we had a rota from the start so we know what stage we should be at each week with learning everything. We have theory lessons every morning and then practical in the afternoon and it worked really well. Once I had learnt that skill I would then do it with Holmes of beauty to practice more and learn more tips.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support as we have 1 to 1 meetings every month which gives me time to voice any thoughts I’m having and track my progress and see what I can do to improve. and then we also sort out more training if I feel I need it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I get the opportunity every day to perform beauty treatments on paying clients so this gives me more experience which will then make me better for when I qualify. They also let me revise in some of the gaps I have spare when it gets close to exams
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Very well as I gain lots of knowledge that I need and get corrected if I need to do something differently.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have our Christmas parties and also sand polo where we work it and then get to enjoy one night ourselves. There has been talk of team days that will be coming soon

Because the environment is professional but also nice and laid back and we all enjoy being around eachother.
