Responding to and handling 999 emergency calls. multi agency working. National resilience role. mobilising appliances to incidents. Incident management. General administration tasks. Self development. Managing radio traffic. Answering queries from other fire services. Dealing with members of the public. Dealing with external stakeholders. Major incident response.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Very in depth programme. enjoyable and intense at times but very thorough and eqipped me with the skills to do my job.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes mutiple skills that are required to work in an emergency control room. How to operate the ICCS and vision system. How to respond to an deal with emergencies and major incidents. Customer service. remaining calm in situations under pressure. Resilience. Organisation skills.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Each part of the programme is split into phases with an assessment at the end of each phase. Each phase requires a certain amount of portfolio work and evidence to be completed. All of this leads towards gateway and an end point assessment. This is assessed alongside your portfolio and all behaviors,skills and knowledge. Very well organised and structured.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

A lot of support and guidance was given from my employer. A mentor was appointed and someone was always available to provide guidance when necassary.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Massively. Consolidating my knowledge through the apprenticeship with the different phases and assessments really helped me learn my job role.

Yes i got involved in lots of extra activities and networking events. Our service hava a vast variety of events to get involved in should you want to.

Why?
Its an excellent service to work for that invests heavily in its employees and is an inclusive workforce. It has a stong culture that is people focused. There is large scope for career advancement and moving to different roles internally. All staff are friendly and supportive.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service?
There are multiple roles within Merseyside fire and rescue service available. Research or come for a look around, speak to staff, employees about their roles to gain a better understanding. Really enjoyable place to work that encourages you to reach your full potential.
