Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

as an apprentice paint and decorator i spend 4days a week working on site where i learn the trade by working alongside skilled and experienced foreman. I get to go to a variety of jobs and learn how to prepare surfaces by filling and other methods to make them look good before we apply paint. I have always learnt to protect the surface in the work area from damage and clean up after myself before leaving a job. the 5th day of the week i spend in college gaining further knowledge and skills required to be a qualified.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

i enjoy my time as an apprentice at Bagnalls as the staff in the office are all kind and supportive as well as the fact i get to work within a large company with lots of workers who have supported my development well and helped me gain the knowledge to feel confident when on jobs.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

when i started out as an apprentice i had no knowledge or skills of painting and decorating, since starting my apprenticeship i have learnt how to make good damaged surfaces and how to properly paint with skills such as learning how to mix up and use filler, cut in edges with a paint brush, use a roller to paint walls and how to hang wallpaper and wide vinyl.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

my programme is well organised/ structured, since day one i have always been to who and where i will be working for the next week. also my manager and other people in the office have good communication with my college to ensure i am staying on track with my progress.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

throughout my time as an apprentice i have received a lot of support from my employer and other people on the bagnalls team whether it is been about my progress as an apprentice or personal stuff going on outside of the workplace.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

my employer is always pushing me to make sure or my college work is done on time and putting me on jobs that will help me gain the experience and skills required to get my qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

the qualification i am getting helps me perform better in my role because i have learnt a lot skills needed and feel comfortable when working on site thanks to the health and safety courses i have been on plus the experience i have gained.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

i have been put forward and taken part in competitions for painting as well work events.

because the team i work for i all nice and supportive as well as the experiences i have had since starting work here have helped me grow and improve as a person.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bagnalls?
to take things at you pace and not to worry about little mistakes when painting because they can be fixed and you are learning.
