Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Investigation of tax fraud, money laundering and other financial crimes. Day to day role involves conducting investigations, gathering intelligence, preparing court documents and case files for prosecution.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have now completed the programme but throughout its' duration I enjoyed the opportunity to immerse myself in a completely new field, gaining a significant amount of theoretical and practical knowledge - it was both challenging and very rewarding journey.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

During my apprenticeship I have gained a working knowledge of relevant legislation , investigative techniques, developed the ability to analyse data, spot anomalies. I learnt to write accurate, clear reports and court documents, working alongside experienced investigators, legal teams and other enforcement bodies.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

As the first kind of apprenticeship of its kind run by my organisation, there were naturally some adjustments needed along the way. However, the apprenticeship team were highly engaged, responsive to feedback and proactive in making improvements and necessary changes which was reassuring.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I received outstanding support throughout my apprenticeship- from both the dedicated apprenticeship team and my colleagues in the office. In particular the guidance of my Practical Training Officer was invaluable- her expertise and support were essential in helping me navigate each stage of the process with confidence.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I received consistent and ongoing support, always had access to all the necessary learning materials, timely feedback and structured guidance.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification has been essential in equipping me with the knowledge and skills needed to perform effectively in my role. Without it I wouldn't have had the understanding of investigative procedures, ;legislation and practical techniques required for this work. The structured learning and support from the training provider were instrumental in building my knowledge and skills.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

While I am aware there are a number of extra- curricular activities available I personally haven't taken part in them, however, it is clear that opportunities to get involved do exist for those who are interested.

Would you recommend HMRC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a great place to work, with a supportive environment and a strong focus on development. The apprenticeship programme gave me opportunity to enter a career I wouldn't have been able to access otherwise.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HMRC?
Take time to research the role and understand what HMRC does- especially if you're applying for an investigative position. Be open to learning, ask questions and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. The apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity so make the most of the training, support and the resources available to you.
