Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am in an account handling/ broking role for the Marine Cargo Team. On a daily basis this involves keeping track of accounts I am working on and speaking to Underwriters if needed.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have enjoyed my programme. I am lucky that I get on very well with the other graduates in my cohort which is making me enjoy the programme even more. I feel I am learning a lot and getting good opportunities throughout my placement.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I am developed my communication skills through meetings with underwriters and clients.
I have also developed general skills, such as email manner.
I have developed relationship management skills through the various internal and external contacts I have met.
Lastly, I have learnt new risk and analytics skills through taking part in a risk and analytics curriculum.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

BPP provide a well structured programme. However, I find their CII webinars are not as useful as they could be and that sometimes the communication from BPP has been poor. For example, waiting considerable time to hear back from them or my coach when I have emailed questions.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I feel there is a good level of support from WTW, however, it has been more challenging recently with one of our programme managers leaving as I had a good relationship with her. I receive good support from my manager and team.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

There is a good level of support there, however, I don't find it particularly useful. The webinars involve 2 hours of someone presenting information to you, which can be quite hard to follow along with concentration. I find these easier to watch back on record when you can take more information in. There are practice questions on BPP, however, they are no where near as hard as the actual exam questions.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification is increasing my general knowledge of the insurance market which I can apply in my every day work.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I am part of the netball team and the CSR team in London. There are also lots of events to get involved in with the market. Would be nice if we had more organised grad events.

Why?

I have so far enjoyed my time at WTW. I would recommend it as it is a valued company across the market and is provides good learning opportunities for the start of your career.
