Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
As a main contractor I am dealing with site issues that will affect programme, quality and changes of scope. I work with the sub contractor to carry out work safely and accurately to the drawings and specification provided. Creating site diaries, signing quality assurance documents and putting together safety documentation.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy coming to work a lot, everyday is a new challenge. Some days can be very stressful but with a supportive team you learn to deal and adapt with this.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Through my apprenticeship I have had the opportunity to manage people and have had to work on my social skills. My construction knowledge has grown immeasurably, reading drawings, using software, using survey equipment and understanding how construction programmes work on the ground.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I am a block release apprentice, I spend a full week at university every third week. This is great for really being able put yourself into the education without having to think about work the next day.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Kier are always happy to book hotels for revision sessions and exams which really helps take the stress away from important exams. I am also given days where i can fully focus on revising or completing coursework outside of uni time.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Lecturers are always available on Aula. More support could be given for ICE, off the job.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Often modules aren't directly relevant to my role but help to create an understanding of civil engineering as a broader view. The degree holds a lot of weight when looking for jobs abroad and moving towards ICE.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes there are plenty of opportunities to socialize out of work. The project holds football on a Tuesday's after work and I am taking part in the three peaks with work for charity in two weeks time.
