Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As an apprentice welder, my role involves gaining hands-on experience in various welding techniques while actively supporting skilled professionals on-site. I am learning to work safely and effectively with tools and machinery, preparing and joining metal components using processes such as MIG, TIG, and stick welding. Alongside practical training, I am completing coursework that covers welding theory, safety regulations, which helps reinforce my understanding and skills. This combination of on-the-job training and classroom learning is helping me build a solid foundation for a successful career in welding.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my job as an apprentice welder, and I take pride in learning and improving my skills every day. However, recently I’ve faced some challenges that affected my confidence and made certain tasks feel more difficult than before. it was a tough period. Despite that, I’ve been working hard to overcome these setbacks by asking questions, staying focused, and learning from my mistakes. I'm now starting to regain my confidence and feel more comfortable in my role again, and I'm motivated to keep pushing forward and growing in the trade.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
currently learning to stick weld.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I believe there needs to be a lot more guidance and support from senior welders and supervisors in the workplace. Having experienced knowledge and techniques would be valuable for apprentices like myself who are still learning the trade. Proper guidance not only helps us develop our welding skills more effectively but also plays a big role in teaching us how to identify and fix problems when they occur. Learning how to overcome mistakes and challenges with the help of mentors would boost our confidence and make us more capable and independent in our roles over time
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Personally, I feel the employer has supported me well throughout my apprenticeship, providing opportunities to learn and grow in my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
It's really been a rollercoaster with college—trying to get through my time there has been tough, especially with tutors leaving and often being left in the dark. Things are only just now slowly starting to get back on track.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
by getting us to a place we need to be to be qualified.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
no.
