Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Project management of major highways and minor civil engineering projects
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The programme is very rewarding but does have significant challenges around time management in exam season each year. But the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Contract management, highway design, design standards, CAD drawings, ArcGIS pro, Structural analysis

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Wiltshire council is a great and very supportive environment, I would highly recommend to anyone. UWE was good overall but at times lacked organisation especially around delivering assignment brief in a timely fashion which contributed to time management pressures.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I couldn't rate Wiltshire council any higher, the system is very well organised and provides plenty of support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
UWE is supportive and the negative aspects outweigh the bad. My main criticism is that at times i didn't feel that the course considered day release apprentices needs enough.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel very positive about the knowledge i have gained from this qualification. The Traffic and project management module was very relevant to my work. Furthermore, the course provides valuable knowledge for working with AutoCAD and ArcGIS pro, though i feel the course would benefit from expanding on the use of these programs in various engineering applications.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes, these are largely provided by the ICE

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Wiltshire council to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have worked for a couple of different companies before I started here, and what surprised me most was how different the culture at Wiltshire Council was in comparison. Wiltshire Council is very supportive and wants its employees to succeed and progress professionally.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Wiltshire council?
Read all you can on the Wiltshire council website about their aims and values as an organisation.
