Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I help to design the entry programmes for initial officers at the Academy, mapping sessions across the curriculum and designing content. I work with a range of departments to review the programmes regularly and report on the curriculum in governance and tactical meetings. I also work with subject matter experts across the force to ensure our materials are current.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship. I feel very supported and I've had some great opportunities to put my learning into practice. Whenever I've asked people for help or opportunities, they have gone above and beyond to support me with whatever I have needed. It's been a really great experience.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a lot of new skills on my apprenticeship such as change management, stakeholder mapping, capability planning and evaluation techniques. I've also developed skills including relationship building, giving and receiving feedback and data analysis. I've been given plenty of opportunities to develop these skills both on and off the job.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very organised. I have all of the resources that I need to succeed with the programme and I know where to go if I need help. The structure of the programme is excellent: each session builds on previous learning and gives me a deeper understating of the content.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is very supportive. They have given me plenty of time to complete my apprenticeship and anyone who I have asked for support has gone above and beyond to help. My line manager has continuously offered support, or pointed me in the right direction if there is a specialist within the force.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider is very supportive. I have regular progress reviews where my coach reviews my progress and challenges me to come up with new goals. If I have any questions between sessions, my coach is quick to respond and very supportive, offering options and signposting me in the right direction.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that the programme has give me the knowledge and skills to excel in the role that I am currently in within the academy. The understanding of giving and receiving feedback, and change management theories have supported me to implement changes in a way that engages others in the process.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
The team I work with organise social events regularly which I am invited to. there is the Merseyside Sports and Social group which organises sports and have a social club that you can attend. There are also force wide events advertised regularly which I am aware of and have attended, such as the Merseyside Police 50th Anniversary fun day.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Merseyside Police to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The culture at the academy is supportive, with people often listening well to each other and taking on feedback. There is a culture of trust, with everybody having the autonomy to do their job well and the offer of support is always there when needed from many different people on the team at all levels.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Merseyside Police?
Use the support, tools and people available to you to find out as much as possible and get as many experiences as you can. People are very open and happy to help so make the most of those opportunities.
