3.6/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I design kitchens for customers and do presentations to sell these kitchens. I use CAD to design the kitchens and also do surveys of people's houses to get the measurements of the room
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my job here. I like that there's always targets to hit and that no kitchen is the same. I like the challenge of sales too and like the creative element of the job with the designing

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Lots of new skills- CAD training for one, but I have also never done any sales before and really enjoy the challenge.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Howdens has 4 week periods so there's a structure every 4 weeks to hit out number. Didac has monthly meet ups and your tutor gives you work after each one to complete before the next one and are easily contactable between meetings. As for the actual job role, once you're on your feet you get a lot of freedom with your schedule as long as you are hitting the targets
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Lots of support. I have monthly one to one check ins with her but can speak to her between this if needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Quite a bit. I did find the didac coursework to be a little irrelevant to the actual job role I do but I recieve support with all the coursework I need to do
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I have found my experience in the actual job to be the most beneficial to my experience and skillset but the apprenticeship compliments it nicely with the more theory side of things.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are a few annual events such as rounders, go karting.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Howdens to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's a very good company to work for, and gives you lots of job opportunities after your apprenticeship
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Howdens?
It doesn't matter if you don't have any experience with cad or sales in the past. But definitely research the company and show that you're excited about the opportunities this apprenticeship will offer you
